The Harwood Cross Country Invitational that was held on the Harwood Union High School cross-country course on Saturday afternoon, September 13. What makes this invitational unique is that when both races are finished, the team scores from each race (boys’ and girls’) are combined and there is a coed champion award. Harwood finished second to Montpelier by two points for the coed champion award. There were no JV races this year so all of the high school boys raced in one race and all of the high school girls raced in one race.
"This was also our seniors' (Nicky Service, Pippa Diller and Chapin Rivers) final race on their home course,” coach Matt Migonis said.
"It was a fantastic day all around at the Harwood Invite today. Great weather, great food, and great racing. The HU course has long been known as one of, if not the toughest courses to run on in VT. Speed doesn't mean as much as courage and guts when racing this course. The more courage and guts you have, the better you'll place. I thought all of our athletes showed tremendous courage and guts today. They fought hard from the gun and put in some amazing performances. I'm especially proud of our three seniors who laced up the racing shoes for the final time on their home course. Pippa, Nicky, and Chapin are tremendous leaders, athletes, and teammates. I'm extremely proud of them for what they have brought to the team and I look forward to their leadership continuing for the rest of the season,” Migonis reported.

Harwood finished in third place with a score of 67 points.
