To The Editor:
Charlie Kirks’ murder has brought out the violent nature of the Republican party’s hypocrisy. Charlie Kirk was violent in his speech and his engagement with the world. He acknowledged that people would be killed as a result of strict adherence to the sanctified second amendment rights. He preached first amendment rights for himself but wanted university professors to be dismissed for being for Palestinian’s rights. By his own words, he was a misogynist and racist.
As a socialist, I think it’s immoral to kill ones’ political opponents. I deplore this murder, morally, and socially, because we want to stop the violence. We don’t want to be at war with our neighbors. We want to stop the violence.
But, as a human being that is socialist, I won’t compromise: on a woman’s right to abortion, immigrants’ right to be in our country, fixing systemic racism and queer hatred through affirmative means (DEI).
The Trumpist Republican party is trying to get us to hate each other. Valley Republicans, you know that you respect our black and brown and queer neighbors (early or recent immigrants). They are us, as are you. We’re all here together. It’s a time for love not hatred.
