Jess Mobley

Jess Mobley passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on May 2, 2025, in Naples, Florida. Sallie and Herman Mobley welcomed Jess into the world on January 28, 1938, in Hampton, Georgia. He spent his days in Hampton helping his father and mother at Mobley's Grocery and playing basketball and football for Henry County High School. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps after graduation.

Jess started his career in the early days of the computer industry, where he worked in Atlanta, Boston, Memphis, San Jose, and Paris, France. He was a vice president with Sun Microsystems in Silicon Valley during the tech boom. After retirement, he split his time between Naples, Florida, and Warren, Vermont.

Jess's passions in life were work, family, sports, and travel. He was an excellent golfer and was able to play in a number of ProAms and tournament practice rounds with top PGA golfers. He enjoyed going to sporting events that included numerous Super Bowls. Jess traveled the world with his wife, Nancy and often spoke about an African safari being one of his favorites. He also generously hosted multiple trips with his sons and granddaughters. Jess made a point of spending time with his sisters on long "siblings only" weekends.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Mobley; his sons, Steve Mobley (Susie) and Chris Mobley; his sisters, Sara McDermitt, Faye Davis (Tom), and Jeannette Steiner; and his granddaughters Caitlin Mobley and Britt Mobley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sallie and Herman; brother, Jerry; and sister Gloria Grossbart.

A visitation will be held at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, Georgia, followed by a burial service held at Berea Cemetery in Hampton, Georgia, on May 17, 2025. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a life well lived.

Jess will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
