The Mad River Valley Rotary Club has funded several academic scholarships for more than a decade. Last year an award for trades was added. In addition, the club has received a $20,000 gift to distribute. Applicants must be a student at Harwood Union High School, Green Mountain Valley School or a Vermont CTE center graduating in the spring, or attend another high school and reside in Duxbury, Fayston, Moretown, Waitsfield or Warren. Applicants must have maintained a GPA of B (3.0) or better during high school and have shown a commitment to community service. A donor has made $20,000 available, $10,000 for one scholarship, the Harwood International Distinguished Scholarship and an additional $10,000, which will be for four $2,500 awards, Harwood International Merit Scholarships. There is another $2,000 for a trades award and $500 for Tools of the Trade. MRVRotary continues to award a $5,000 scholarship from the Thorsen-Brightenback fund and $2,500, named for Bob Holden, who ran the program for many years.
