Writers, artists, librarians, and book store owners gathered at the home of Marydale DeBor, of Warren, Saturday evening for a discussion with Bedrick about her work as the founder of Enchanted Lion, her philosophy on creating books for children, and Unruly, Enchanted Lion's new imprint featuring picture books for older readers.

Authors travelled from as far as Boston, Brooklyn, and New Hampshire for the opportunity to speak with Bedrick about her acclaimed work in publishing. Enchanted Lion's books have been honored numerous times by the American Library Association, the New York Times, the New York Public Library, and the Bank Street College of Education, among others.

The following morning, Bedrick was at Inklings Children's Books to share "There Was a Shadow" with young readers. Released last year, the book was selected by the New York Times as one of the best children’s books of 2024.

As Bedrick read aloud, listeners were invited to notice the position of the sun and the subtle ways in which light and shadow reveal and obscure things both in the world and in ourselves. A shadow art project followed the reading.

"Claudia is continuing the long, important tradition of creating beautiful books for children," says Marydale DeBor. "In this day in age, that is a precious gift."
