Indivisible - Mixed Media Art Making

Indivisible MRV is widely known for its defense of democracy. What’s less known – but equally vital – is its commitment to strengthening community through support for local nonprofits. On Saturday, August 2, the group hosted an Abstract Mixed Media Art Fundraiser for Hannah’s House, and the results were nothing short of inspiring.

I arrived that day as a reluctant participant. I don’t consider myself artistic, had no clue what “mixed media” meant, and the sun outside was tempting me to skip it altogether. But as a member of both the Hannah’s House board and MRV Indivisible, this was where I needed to be.

The moment I stepped into the Waitsfield Meeting House fellowship hall, all hesitation vanished. The room buzzed with chatter, creative energy, and a sense of shared purpose. Participants from earlier shifts were already immersed in the process, and I instantly felt the pull of something joyful and meaningful.

Over the next two hours, my appreciation for the event – and its impact – grew exponentially. Each of the six art stations added a new layer of texture and charm to our creations (yes, even mine!). I met new friends, received gentle guidance from volunteers brimming with patience and encouragement, and joined in lively conversations at the drying stations, where hairdryers hummed like a chorus of possibility.

By the time I reached Station 6, I was stunned – and delighted – to see the final result: a small, striking book that now sits proudly in our home. Thanks to the generosity of organizers and participants, $620 was raised for Hannah’s House. Even more powerful was the joy radiating from every person as they left – proof that the camaraderie, creativity, and connection we shared had lifted spirits and strengthened bonds.

In times like these, such sparkling moments feel especially needed and cherished.

On behalf of the Hannah’s House Board, staff, and clients, I offer heartfelt thanks to Lisa Therrien and Jeb Bouchard for their time, talent, and materials so generously poured into this event. Deep gratitude as well to the Indivisible MRV volunteers who guided and cheered us on, and to the Waitsfield Meeting House for providing the perfect space. Your generosity truly boosted mental health in our Valley – in more ways than one.
