Spring into Color

Warren artist Susie Conrad and some great photographers with the Mad River Valley Camera Club have mounted a fun and colorful spring exhibit at the Waitsfield United Church of Christ. It’s open weekends through the end of the month and worth the visit.

Conrad’s paintings, abstract and less so, are full of color and light and create a perfect contrast with the photography styles featured in the show.

The Waitsfield United Church nave features huge windows and soaring walls that are ideal for showcasing art, inviting visitors to stroll around the entire space.  Here are the photographers who are featured with Conrad.

Russ Bowen has loved photography since grammar school, when he started with a used Kodak camera. He later joined photography clubs, exhibited in the Green Mountain Photo Show, and co-founded the Mad River Valley Camera Club with Gail Curtin.

Mary Brevda is an amateur photographer with 30-plus years of experience. She’s drawn to landscapes, abstract imagery, infrared photography, and creative experimentation.

Gail Curtin’s passion for photography began with the landscapes of Hawaii and continues with the beauty of Vermont. Her work captures nature, humor, and unexpected moments.

Paul Haverstick sees every photograph as a unique moment worth preserving. Retired in Waterbury Center, he devotes time to photography, painting, gardening, woodworking, and music.

Karen Jamiel is inspired by color, especially in flowers, sunrises, sunsets, and nature. She values the perspective photography offers and has spent years refining her craft.

Susan Lee fell in love with Vermont as a weekend visitor before retiring here. Interested in photography since the 1970s, she returned to the craft through digital photography and Mad River Valley Arts photo shows.

Bob Maddock’s work explores the dignity of places and objects shaped by time. His photographs invite viewers to look beyond decay and reflect on history, endurance, and age.
